Five years ago, Chuck and I purchased our glorious fixer upper. The upstairs was separated into 3 hideous rooms. At the time we thought, wouldn't it be cool to knock down these walls and create a master suite??? It was pretty cool... until Charlie came along. And really it has not been that bad. Chuck works late shifts, so I have always welcomed Charlie into my bed. I mean it is a California king and for some reason I always sleep on the very edge. So there is plenty of room for us all, plus two dogs, even if she sleeps sideways-which she absolutely does. I also enjoy my lil cuddle buddy and haven't been ready to kick her out yet. But now that she is becoming such a big girl, we thought its about time for her to graduate to her own big girl room.
Here are some before demo, demo, post demo, and post-post demo photos. It feels like we are never going to finish this house....
Pretty scary right? After our demo I came to a tally of 13 different types of wallpaper throughout the entire house, 5 of those were on this level. Ugh. Also, notice that nice stucco ceiling. That took me HOURS to scrap off, AND there was more wallpaper underneath!! Never again will I buy a house with a textured ceiling. What a pain in the butt!
Now for Charlie's room. I think Charlie has really been enjoying our many trips to Home Depot. Today she found a quarter on the floor and said "look, money! Lets go to Home Depot!" She is on her way to being a Miss Bob Villa like her momma!
On to the wall. This was the worst part. And I am surprised Chuck and I are still together after this adventure. Saggy ceilings create lots of frustration and even more arguments. But now that it is up, all is well :) I would like to also add that Chuck and I are horrible carpenters and suck at drywall. Like really really suck. But I think our final product looks pretty darn good.
So there is our 2 weekend project. It would have been finished sooner, but Charlie finally succeeded in getting me sick. So I was out with the flu for a few days. I still need to re-paint, thanks to the stupid lady at HD. I told her that the paint she mixed did not match my sample but she promised me that it was an exact match and then acted like I was wasting her time. So I brought it home and it definitely did not match my "simply stunning" green. Instead it came out "baby poop" mustard. Grrr. Overall, we are all happy with the transformation and Charlie has slept in her big girl bed for the past week.
